Resources

Here's a quick list of resources that have been immensely helpful for me (and hopefully for you!):

Books - Take a look at my Suggested Reading page for helpful texts for gardening, permaculture, and sustainable agriculture

YouTube/Odysee Channels - Check these out for vlogs/updates and how to for homesteading, gardening, and building a resilient life:

  • Jack Spirko - My go-to for homesteading and resilient lifestyle.  He's not necessarily safe-for-work, and he doesn't pull his punches when it comes to controversial political topics, but as far as building resilience into your life, this is a strong resource.
  • Justin Rhodes - The first homestead video that I stumbled onto in 2020.  A wonderful view of homestead life with a man, his farm, and his family.
  • Roots and Refuge - An excellent gardening channel, full of tips-and-tricks oriented toward beginning gardeners, but also a lovely view at family life on a homestead.
  • Greg Judy Regenerative Rancher - One of the masters of regenerative agriculture, this is an amazing channel if you're looking into mob-grazing with cattle or sheep and building soil and restoring abused land.
  • Gold Shaw Farm - A highly entertaining channel of a Vermont farmer raising farm birds and growing a homestead.
  • Homegrown Passion - A great YouTube channel about a wonderful hydroponic farm in Ohio.  Lots of information about running hydroponics for those of you interested in dipping your toes in the growing style.

Other Resources - Podcasts, blogs, etc.

  • Backwoods Home Magazine - "A how-to homesteading magazine for anyone wishing to pursue a self-reliant lifestyle"
  • The Survival Podcast with Jack Spirko - "Helping you live a better life, if times get tough or even if they don't."  Some helpful tips especially around food storage, growing your own food, permaculture, and lifestyle resilience.
